Eye care is a major health need in Guatemala, with millions of people affected by vision problems and a relatively high rate of blindness. The issue is especially serious among older adults, where over one-third experience significant vision impairment.

Most of these conditions, such as cataracts and uncorrected vision, are treatable. However, many people do not receive care due to limited access to services, a shortage of specialists, and high costs. As a result, many cases of vision loss in Guatemala remain preventable but untreated.
